Hi folks!
Yesterday was Valentine's Day and the day where we ushered in the New Year of the Tiger.

Yee flew back from Australia to join us in the celebrations!! Oh and she brought back this weird little santa which paddles round and round and sings a song. She claims that someone gave it to her for christmas but the song irritates her :D So as a result, my sis got it as a present :P

Newly wedded couple came over too :D:D Now I have 2 jiujius and 2 jiumas. Well, to save the save the trouble, just greet them jiujiussssssss and jiumassssssss :P

This year, I wore this blue strapless dress with this white drape...as a result, I got scrutinised by aunts who commented about me finally going dressy. Gah. Side-effect of having all-boy cousins on my dad's side...but did I mention that I bought it because my sis and mum were convinced this looked nice on me?! ahhh~

On a higher note, I stuffed myself silly over the New Year. I was so stuffed that I puked a little today...kind of got the overstuffed syndrome + dizzy spells. Not a good combo...hmm...but on the high side, I got to eat loads of goodies and even Swensen's Ice cream this afternoon!

I watched a number of shows over the holiday too!! China's New Year Celebration Dances are omg quality - they are just so syncronised!!

Oh and I think I'm getting too lazy. Yesterday and Today had seen me taking a lazy afternoon nap that lasted 1.5 to 2 hrs. haiz. Lazy bones...I wasted the entire afternoon by sleeping at an inopportune time of 3pm...tsk tsk.

Anyway, I predict that this week will be a busy week, given that there's GP Essay Test and A*Star Closing Ceremony...Gotta miss H3 in order to make it...I hope I can catch up!! Anyway, Saturday will be the briefing for OCBC Cycle already...I do hope that it'll be an eventful time, although I quite pity our team leader, since we will all know each other, but the leader won't know us :S

Today, I volunteered at Lakeside Family Centre again...

It never fails to amaze me how happy the kids are just to be in a place where they are surrounded by friends. Even when they get scolded, they bounce right back to where they were before...

I saw a boy being punished by doing more assessments. But he happily did it and even had time to ask a friend to sneak out a CNY lantern from the room.

I worked with Zi Ling today and found my passion for tutoring once again :D

Zi Ling's this really introverted primary 6 girl in foundation class, who never opens her mouth (or so the centre people say). She doesn't take well to strangers and certainly doesn't talk to them at all. But I guess I made a breakthrough today!

It's my first time working with her and it was indeed challenging.

At first, she wouldn't look me in the eye and wouldn't consider opening her mouth to ask for help even if she was facing problems in completing her homework. So, I decided to do a little prompting and prodding. She finally opened up to me :D I hope I didn't push her too much :(

One thing I tried and failed was to get her to check the dictionary for the difficult Chinese words. Argh. She wouldn't do it~! But I did get her to slowly explain all the definitions of the words in her homework and thus made her understand the passage better :D

Although we weren't talking like best buddies by the end of the day, at least she gained the confidence to look at me in the eye and was even willing to give me that sweet but precarious smile of hers, coupled with occasional questions. I think what made a volunteer's day was the grin and casual wave of goodbye she gave me when I left.

Perhaps I would be able to talk freely with her by the next session. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to it! I guess this is what volunteerism is all about - the passion and the feeling of satisfaction.
